- It could be as simple as the cable. The control lines for the floppies are
- mostly shared (drive select being the exception), so the first thing to try is
- an external drive. If that works, the only remaining control line it could be
- is drive select. Drive select originates from the CIA (8520) at U8. Try
- swapping U8 with U7 and see if the floppy now works. If it does, you've moved
- the problem to the printer but know where it is.
-
- If an external doesn't work (or if you don't have one to try), you can also try
- swapping CIA's, but the control lines are handled by both CIA's and the results
- won't be definative where the problem is.
-
- If you have a spare drive mech, that's another thing to try swapping; but from
- the rest of your post, that doesn't look like an option.

- You can't use a Mac multi-speed drive. There are several models of drive that
- will work. The two things it MUST offer are DISK_CHANGED on pin 2 (some won't
- have this, as PC clones don't use it) and motor on from MOTOR_ON (not from
- SELECT -- this is the norm). One of the big things is getting one with a
- button in the right place and long enough. You can remove the faceplate from
- an A2000 drive, but the button won't be right. I've seen people cut a hole so
- they could mount a drive with faceplate. It works, but how it looks depends on
- your skill.
